Kulvain wasn't always called that. His original name is known only by a handful who do not speak of him, which suits Kulvain just fine.
He pursued the arcane arts in his homeland, but was prone to temptations and delighted in causing harm. At last, his family decided it could take no more of such a troublesome individual, and disinherited him. Deeply hurt, Kulvain cursed his kin and boarded the next ship to the nearby island of Ixor. The ship came under attack from pirates, however, and strayed from its destination. Driven to deeper waters, it began to sink, and Kulvain quickly boarded one of the two lifeboats and escaped on his own.
Weary with exhaustion and thirst, he was found by a merchant ship bound for the Kingdom of Larken. The captain was kind and took the traveler with him. Upon reaching port, Kulvain traveled far and wide, eventually coming under the tutelage of an old necromancer in the Great Forest of Larken. Upon the man's death, the elf gathered his belongings and set off for the lonely town of Nowhen, expecting to find a job there. What happened instead was a fateful encounter.
